Monstermob Shakedown – 5 May

May 8, 2012 in Other, Reports and Results

Being spread thin this last weekend didn’t help any, especially with events on the go in both Johannesburg and Kimberley.

Monstermob held the first round in their drift series: Shakedown and it was well attended by the coastal competitors and a few Johannesburg entries. It’s good to see that the likes of Jacques Lemmer hasn’t hung up his helmet indefinitely.

The crew from KZN Drift also joined in on the action, Shain Ferreira’s new R33 bearing the brunt of an untimely mistake and making contact with the unforgiving walls. Read the rest of this entry →

Jim McFarlane and Jason Webb

For the longest time, SupaDrift has been hosted at Pretoria based Zwartkops Raceway but this weekend tradition was broken as drifters from all around the country converged on the coastal town of East London and invaded the East London Grand Prix Circuit.

‘Slummies’ played host to the second round of the SupaDrift Series for 2012 and for many that are well familiar with the SupaDrift scene, it was the first time that they were subjected to the fast, long bends of the track. Read the rest of this entry →

BahnStorming East London – SupaDrift Slides In

March 7, 2012 in Upcoming Events

Wade van Zummeren

This weekend the drift community casts it’s gaze towards the coastal town of East London where the second round of the SupaDrift Series is set to take place.

A large Gauteng contingent, largely regarded as the driving force of drifting in South Africa, will be marching into the Eastern Cape town for a battle with the local stalwarts. East London Grand Prix Circuit is the battle field and is home to the likes of Wade van Zummeren, Michael Radloff and Jethro Schwartz who will all have the home town advantage.

The East London GP layout is a fast and difficult stretch that will test the mettle of many a GP based driver. No doubt that Jason Webb will be looking forward to clinching another podium in a bit to open even more of a gap on his opponents.

Gates open at 8am on 10 March and entry will cost R50pp with youngsters paying R25 for entry.

The added bonus of a simultaneous drag event will provide some variety and will feature the Speed and Sound Drag Army

This past weekend, round 1 of the SupaDrift series 2012 kicked off at Zwartkops Raceway and it was clear to see, with the number of entries, that this was an event well waited for.

There were 31 entries for the day and the level of drifting has increased immensely. It was proven on Saturday as the competitors went all out.

We saw the return of old faces but also welcomed some new. Some new drivers joined including Riaz Alibhai, Paola Gouveia, Jean Mare and Duane Small. Also joining were regular faces in fresh looking cars, looking really good. Aubrey Hiles, Shaun Cornelius, Jason Webb, Wade Van Zummeren as well as Mikey Skelton all sported new looks on the day.

Drifters were given time on Saturday morning to get more seat time in before Qualifying started at 13:00 as there was an interesting yet effective change used on the track. After pull away, drivers had their usual initiation box that was followed by an inside clipping point, running wide to a rear clipping point, then switching into a rear clip tire wall and then ended with a rear clipping point.
