Japan Auto Round 2 – 5 May

The second round of the 2012 Japan Auto Drift series took place this past Saturday at The Rock Raceway in Brakpan, and drew a surprisingly large crowd considering it was fighting for attention against both the rugby and the soccer.

The event was well supported by many of the drivers too, despite there being another event on the same day in Kimberley.

High temperatures were the order of the day and the increased traction claimed a few victims in the morning practice sessions. Lee-Roy Frans destroyed his Supra’s gearbox and Gerald Small lunched his turbo, mere moments before the official driver briefing. Read the rest of this entry →

Hardcore Drifting at Phakisa Freeway – 30 March

It was first, not only for the drifters, but for the town of Welkom too. This past weekend, Hardcore Drifting hosted the first full blown drift event at the Phakisa Freeway super-complex in the Freestate town of Welkom.

It was met with great enthusiasm from both the locals and the out of town drifters who, thanks to the numerous individual sponsors of the event, streamed into Welkom on Friday for an quick practice session before the rain came down. Read the rest of this entry →

Carnival City Round 1 – The Rock Raceway

Round 1 of the Carnival City WOMZA drift championship for 2012 set the wheels in motion this past weekend at The Rock Raceway. It has set the stage for what is guaranteed to be a mind-blowing year of action, thrills and tension.

An ill-timed cloud burst put a damper on proceeding though, literally raining on the parade… lap. Driver introductions were interrupted by the brief storm but the repercussions were felt for much longer. The track was deemed too wet in places, with standing water causing havoc in a few spots. This resulted in a delayed start that put a slight dent in the schedule. Fortunately, most of the spectators stuck around for the majority of the festivities. Read the rest of this entry →

SupaDrift 8 Final Round

The end of a year is a strange thing. We’re tired and drained and have our eyes set on the end of year festivities, welcoming the thought of some time off. On Saturday, 26 November, our focus was a little different. The final round of the 2011 SupaDrift Series was upon us and offered an exciting display of tyre destruction.
