Yet again Roxy le Roux found herself on her way to Maputo Mozambique this past weekend to judge the first official drift event for 2012 – Drift – Special Stage.

Drifters were again granted a few hours of practice on Saturday as a different part of the track was used this time around that included the hairpin corner around the top half of the track. The track layout was very tricky and very tight but made for good drifting and truly tested skill. Roxy later set out the clipping cones and the drifters were able to practice getting as close as possible. Read the rest of this entry →

This past weekend, round 1 of the SupaDrift series 2012 kicked off at Zwartkops Raceway and it was clear to see, with the number of entries, that this was an event well waited for.

There were 31 entries for the day and the level of drifting has increased immensely. It was proven on Saturday as the competitors went all out.

We saw the return of old faces but also welcomed some new. Some new drivers joined including Riaz Alibhai, Paola Gouveia, Jean Mare and Duane Small. Also joining were regular faces in fresh looking cars, looking really good. Aubrey Hiles, Shaun Cornelius, Jason Webb, Wade Van Zummeren as well as Mikey Skelton all sported new looks on the day.

Drifters were given time on Saturday morning to get more seat time in before Qualifying started at 13:00 as there was an interesting yet effective change used on the track. After pull away, drivers had their usual initiation box that was followed by an inside clipping point, running wide to a rear clipping point, then switching into a rear clip tire wall and then ended with a rear clipping point. Round 1 of the Carnival City WOMZA drift championship for 2012 set the wheels in motion this past weekend at The Rock Raceway. It has set the stage for what is guaranteed to be a mind-blowing year of action, thrills and tension.

An ill-timed cloud burst put a damper on proceeding though, literally raining on the parade… lap. Driver introductions were interrupted by the brief storm but the repercussions were felt for much longer. The track was deemed too wet in places, with standing water causing havoc in a few spots. This resulted in a delayed start that put a slight dent in the schedule. Fortunately, most of the spectators stuck around for the majority of the festivities. Read the rest of this entry →
