This past weekend, round 1 of the SupaDrift series 2012 kicked off at Zwartkops Raceway and it was clear to see, with the number of entries, that this was an event well waited for.

There were 31 entries for the day and the level of drifting has increased immensely. It was proven on Saturday as the competitors went all out.

We saw the return of old faces but also welcomed some new. Some new drivers joined including Riaz Alibhai, Paola Gouveia, Jean Mare and Duane Small. Also joining were regular faces in fresh looking cars, looking really good. Aubrey Hiles, Shaun Cornelius, Jason Webb, Wade Van Zummeren as well as Mikey Skelton all sported new looks on the day.

Drifters were given time on Saturday morning to get more seat time in before Qualifying started at 13:00 as there was an interesting yet effective change used on the track. After pull away, drivers had their usual initiation box that was followed by an inside clipping point, running wide to a rear clipping point, then switching into a rear clip tire wall and then ended with a rear clipping point. This weekend we storm into Zwartkops Raceway for the eighth and final installment of the SupaDrift Series for 2011. It’s been a spectacle of a series throughout the year with many highs and lows as the tables constantly turned and the championship unfolded.

This Saturday, 26th November, we witness the final hurrah to wrap up the year and decide who takes the championship title. Once again, it’s a night event so proceedings will be starting a little later than what we’ve seen earlier in the year with the start marked at 5pm.

SUPADRIFT 08 – Night Time Slideways Chaos!

If you have ever been to a drift event, then you are aware of the blacktop dramas that unfold; vehicles drifting 130km/h plus 1m apart from one another; traditionally leaving a dark tinge of tyre markings on the raceway tarmac. Moreover, you will notice an unfamiliar sight; ‘drifting’ is a judged sport and not a race from A to B; even although, speed be one of the judges criteria’s for adjudicating a run, along with line, angle and the formidable X-Factor; it’s a showcase of skill and will be demonstrating its knack for immediate crowd gratification at this years final round of the Wesbank Super Series on the 26th November 2011. The SupaDrift Series, along with its organisers and Motorsport South Africa have decided to combine efforts in its final rounds of competition and make a motorsport enthusiast smile from ear to ear, and its all happening at Zwartkops Raceway… Read the rest of this entry →
