The Rock Raceway is situated on Johannesburg’s East Rand, midway between Brakpan and Benoni.
Previously a dirt oval, the venue has evolved to now include a tarred oval with park-firma infield, a 200m 1/8 mile drag strip and a multi-turn drift circuit. In addition to this, The Rock Raceway also boasts a motocross track, RC racetrack, RC airfield and FMX arena to make this one of the most versatile multi-parks in South Africa.
With the demise of Wesbank Raceway in 2007, the Opposite Lock drift team was left without a venue. It was then that Tim Stephens opened the gates of The Rock to the drifters, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Tim Stephens was so taken with the sport that he himself built a car and became an active competitor in the drifting arena. This led to the tarring of the infield and the birth of the SADC – The South African Drift Challenge.
The tarred infield allows for various track layouts and setups, from slow and technical to fast and daunting as the concrete walls edge closer and closer. The Colosseum style arena lends itself to a very person, interactive feel with an amazing vibe being generated on race days.
The Rock Raceway is located at:
18 Main Reef Road
