That’ll Buff Right Out…

No really, it will…

Alfred White’s S13 Nissan 200SX came off a little worse for wear ahead of this weekend’s SupaDrift event when it made contact with the wall at The Rock Raceway.

We very seldom saw wall incidents at The Rock, especially wall contact. The recent spate of incidents tells us that the drivers are pushing harder than ever before and are beginning to explore the boundaries. Wall runs are becoming popular and is scoring drivers extra points in competition.

But this comes at a price. As Alfred found out… Only problem is, he wasn’t driving his car at the time. Ouch!

When Things Go Wrong

Drifting, by it’s very nature, is a risky sport. Drivers are constantly on the limit, pushing the boundaries of both theirs and their car’s limits. The risks increase as you add a few variables, like walls, darkness and tandem drifting partners.

Accidents will happen and at The Rock Raceway the running joke is that you can only be welcomed in as a true drifter once you’ve hit the wall.

Last night’s practice session at The Rock Raceway saw two drivers collide, not with the wall, but with each other. Riaan Stokes and Hannes Frans had a little coming together during tandem practice. Frans’ Nissan Skyline R32 took the hit in the door but it was Stokes’ Nissan 200SX S13 that came off second best. Here’s hoping the damage is mainly cosmetic.

We shed a tear

Drifting incidents happen but when your pride and joy is damaged in a traffic accident on the road it becomes a little hard to swallow.

Ernest Simpson recently lost his Silvia is such a manner. Details are sketchy at the moment but that fact remains that it’s sad to loose a car that has grown with you. Our sympathies go out to Ernest.

“Of course it has a heart and soul – I poured mine into it.”
