Fans of The Rock Raceway had to wait a few additional weeks for their drifting fix this month thanks to the Easter holidays but the second round of the Carnival City WOMZA Drift Championship didn’t fail to deliver the action.

While morning practice suggested that we were looking at a smaller field than we’re used to, a total of 24 entries made for exciting drifting. Unlike the Japan Auto Series, the Carnival City rounds do not include a silver cup elimination. This makes things even more daunting as drivers have to qualify in the top 16 in order to continue racing on the day. Read the rest of this entry →

Round 1 of the Carnival City WOMZA drift championship for 2012 set the wheels in motion this past weekend at The Rock Raceway. It has set the stage for what is guaranteed to be a mind-blowing year of action, thrills and tension.

An ill-timed cloud burst put a damper on proceeding though, literally raining on the parade… lap. Driver introductions were interrupted by the brief storm but the repercussions were felt for much longer. The track was deemed too wet in places, with standing water causing havoc in a few spots. This resulted in a delayed start that put a slight dent in the schedule. Fortunately, most of the spectators stuck around for the majority of the festivities. Read the rest of this entry →

This weekend we kick things off, championship style, with the first Carnival City Drift Championship round at The Rock Raceway in Brakpan.

It’s great to see that Carnival City has indeed signed up for another year and it can only be said that the relationship between drifting / Carnival City / The Rock Raceway is one that has gone from strength to strength and we’re convinced that it will grow even stronger this year. 2011 Carnival City Champion – Ernest Simpson

October 6, 2011 in Carnival City, Reports and Results

We know you’re itching to read all about the Team Orange Drift School and you will, soon. There are tonnes of photos to go through and it’s going to be quite something, but more on that later.

This past weekend also saw the 4th and final round of the Carnival City Drift Championship take place at The Rock Raceway. This prestigious affair carries with it the WOMSA title and a fair whack of prize money.

Chad gets Ernest's thoughts before the race.

Going into this final round, Team Drift Spec’s Ernest Simpson lead the championship race with 12 points, 5 points ahead of his nearest rival, Issufo Ussuman from Maputo Mozambique. With 5 points awarded for a win, Ussuman would have to take the outright win with Simpson failing to take any points whatsoever in order to tie the scores. Had this been the case, the decision would then be based on the highest placings throughout the season.

Ernest in the qualifying rounds.

It was not to be and Simpson took his Drift Performance Products / Tyre Rack Nigel Nissan S13 (that was rebuilt at the beginning of the year if you remember correctly) to the semi finals, finishing in 4th to net himself 2 points and place him in the clear. This gave him the overall Carnival City Championship win and the title of WOMSA 1. GWT Racing’s Aubrey Hiles secured second overall thanks to a 4th round win placing him ahead of Issufo Ussuman who claimed third.

An additional honour came when Nobushige Kumakubo and Sleepy Furuse asked if they could award them with their trophies. A once in a lifetime opportunity just to sweeten the experience.

A hearty congratulations goes out to him and his team on their prime performance this year.

Ernest would like to thank:

“DRIFT Performance product.
Monster Motorsport
Nigel Motor Spares
Tyre Rack Nigel
And a huge thanks to Hannes Frans and he’s team for all the work!”
