Saldanha West Coast Festival of Speed: Rota Wheels

This weekend hosted a few events across the Cape and we selected to go drift at the Saldanha West Coast Festival of speed with the Dr1ft Squad.

The week and day leading up to the event was challenging to say the least with having to install the roll cage, change all fluids in the car for Liqui-Moly products, source a tow car and trailer (all trailers were hired out for the weekend), body kit not being finished in time by the body shop and a flat on the tow car which took 3 hours to get fixed on the day, all before the drifting started at 3PM on Saturday 1st October 2011.

When the drifting started though, everything went right. We were drifting in a sectioned off parking lot at WesKus Mall where the majority of the spectators were lured over by the lovely D1S ladies from the drag section to watch us drifters do our thing. There were so many spectators that we had to stop drifting for a while to sort out the major roadblock that was caused on from all of the spectators watching us.

The crowd was kept entertained by around 8-10 cars drifting, with the Liqui-Moly ROTA Silvia being the car out the most, so much so that a crowd member commented on it having iron tyres. Many passenger rides were given and the crowds were entertained by how we were linking up a very tight space in between concrete poles and plantation, making it all look easy but VERY entertaining at the same time. We did a few parade laps and displays whilst being introduced and cheered on by the MC Vic (Super Drift competitor).

I also managed to take out the daughter of one of the Western Cape Liqui-Moly representatives and she was very impressed and entertained.

The car is gearing up nicely for Super Drift next year and we have a look change on the cards with a unveiling we would like to do with Liqui-Moly in December at a large event still to be confirmed.

Come watch the Liqui-Moly ROTA Silvia drifting on the night of 29th October at Killarney race track and possibly the next day at the track day at Killarney.

More dates to be confirmed soon…watch this space!
